Summer Blouses: Blouse pattern customization

Are you looking to sew light, summer blouses that would keep you cool in hot temperatures? If so, this discontinued pattern might be a good choice for you. This pattern, Simplicity 4122, is a bit boxy, so you might need changes similar to the ones I made if your hips are larger than the pattern's bottom circumference.

For the first blouse pattern trial I used a red quilting cotton. I loved how the cotton crocheted trim looked on the finished blouse. Weaknesses: a bit too short, neckline is too high, the fabric is a bit too stiff, and the blouse isn't big enough for my hips.

For the second trial, I adjusted the neckline down, and made it bigger. I used a much lighter cotton fabric in colors I found bright and cheerful. The end result was that I love the feel of the fabric and the cute ladybugs. Weakness: still needs to be roomier for my hips.

I wrote an extensive pattern review over on PatternReview.com and detailed my modifications. I definitely think this blouse looks and feels better in a very lightweight fabric.

I would suggest that either a person does a cut and spread of the body of the blouse pattern pieces, or a person could also add some side vents.
